“Session 1 – The Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines): an important tool for sustainable development of small-scale fisheries” f
The Africa Advisory Group of the Global Strategic Framework of the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines) is composed of representatives of global and regional civil society networks having within themselves small-scale fisheries organisations in the African continent, to ensure a coherent implementation of policies, strategies and actions in support of the SSF Guidelines implementation at regional level, and to inform processes at global level.
Bringing awareness to the challenges, needs and opportunities to sustainably develop small-scale fisheries on globally and at the African continent level is one of the most important objectives informing the work done by the regional African Advisory Group, as part of the Global Strategic Framework for the implementation of the FAO’s SSF Guidelines.
To contribute to this goal, the Africa Advisory Group organised three Information Sharing Sessions, to present and discuss the SSF Guidelines and the processes aiming at supporting their implementation, as well as important challenges, needs and opportunities in the small-scale fisheries sector, to better understand how to support and achieve sustainable and development of small-scale fisheries in Africa, from the perspective of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) representing and closely working with small-scale fishing communities.
