Our work at the global level
The IPC Working Group on Fisheries through its Coordination Group, actively participates as observer in the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI) and the related subsidiary bodies, advocating for Small-Scale Fishers’ (SSF) rights and influencing key decisions. The group was instrumental in the adoption of the Voluntary Guidelines for securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Content of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines) in 2014 and in the endorsement of the Small-Scale Fisheries Global Strategic Framework in support of the implementation of the SSF Guidelines (SSF-GSF), in 2016, where it also assumed an Advisory Group (AG) role to oversee and advocate for the SSF Guidelines implementation. The Working Group is also looking at additional decision-making bodies outside COFI, such as the WTO and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), by strengthening its capacity to engage and ensuring a meaningful participation for its members.
